The most famous Irish alcoholic drink, Guinness, is brewed in the heart of Dublin at the brewery founded by Arthur Guinness in 1759. Guinness purchased the existing brewery and secured what would now be thought of as a sweetheart deal. He leased the premises for a 45 pound annual rent. The lease will not expire for a few years, as it was taken out for 9000 years.
Did you know the remains of the actual St Valentine are found in Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church on Aungier Street in Dublin?
Ireland is known for it's jokes, limericks, proverbs and blessings. Here are a few for your reading pleasure:
-----
The three elderly Gallagher sisters have never married, they go everywhere together and they are all hard of hearing. One windy Spring day as they are walking down the streets of Dublin…
Mary Elizabeth says, "Whew, it is sure windy today."
Molly replies, "No, no. Today is Thursday."
Kathleen says, "So am I. Let's find a bar!
-----
There once was an old man of Lyme
Who married three wives at a time.
When asked, “Why a third?”
He replied, “One's absurd!
And bigamy, sir, is a crime.”
-----
May you have only pleasant hours
To melt your cares away,
And the warmth of Irish laughter
To bring gladness to each day.

He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor and back on his haunches he sat. And all night long you could hear him roar "Bring on the God damn cat!!!"
